Great and Precious Things by Rebecca Yarros

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Great and Precious Things is a deeply emotional and riveting romance. Ms. Yarros has another hit that is certainly great and precious at the same time! She weaves all these wonderful details into a story of heartbreak, betrayal and forever love. It’s a friends-to-enemies-to-lovers troupe that has you begging for our hero and heroine to finally make it happen. Loved it!

Camden is home for good from the military to help care for his Dad with early on-set Alzheimer’s. Only problem – Dad (wrongly) blames him for the death of his brother. When Dad is lucid enough to know Camden is back, he sadly wants nothing to do with him. Camden is a hot, tatted up, LOYAL, “bad boy” that his hometown (wrongly) wants nothing to do with either. Internally, he is a wreck from guilt for his brother’s death but can’t stop thinking about the girl he shouldn’t want.

“I’ll never not want you. Wanting you is all I’ve ever known. You’re in my blood, my bones, my soul. There is no me without you.”

Willow is like my “super-heroine”! She NEVER gives up on Camden. Willow does absolutely everything she wants on her own – even though her Dad and the town make it difficult. She doesn’t care what anyone else thinks. Once Willow and Camden FINALLY get together – she won’t let him go. Even when he walks away to keep the town gossip from ruining her. Oh Yeah – she is also was his dead brother’s fiancé!

“I love you unconditionally, Camden. At your worst? I love you. At your best? Yep, still love you. And until you can accept that, I’ll be right here proving it to you. Choosing you.”

There is some hometown drama and crazy family betrayal (didn’t see that coming!) that radically shakes up the story. Rebecca Yarros has a writing style that gets you invested in all the characters – I know that she will bring all the FEELS! She also genuinely shows you the exhausting heartbreak of caring for a parent with Alzheimer’s.

Great and Precious Things is a beautiful story! I heartily recommend the book – just make sure to bring the tissues.
